George Gershwin was one of the most significant American composers of the 20th century. Known for popular stage and screen numbers as well as classical compositions, Gershwin was a prolific contributor to the “Great American Songbook”. Many of his compositions became standards that continue to this day to form the backbone of many great jazz performances. Sadly, Gershwin died immediately following brain surgery on July 11, 1937, at the age of 38, leaving us to wonder what musical potential remained unexplored. To celebrate the work of this great composer, the ShuJazz Trio has planned an evening based entirely on his tunes. The list of possibilities is huge, and the group will provide a taste of some lesser known songs as well as others you’re sure to recognize.
