Musicians familiar to Salmon Arm jazz fans have regrouped for this week’s show. “Group du Jour” features Jake Verburg (guitar), Colin Spence (piano), Dan Smith (bass) and Brian Pratt-Johnson (vocals and drums).

Band members brought a diverse range of tunes to the table in planning this performance. Standards are barely present in the mix this time around, as the players have decided on more modern material ranging from challenging arrangements of pop tunes to instrumentals that flirt with smooth jazz stylings.

This is the first performance by this group, despite their long presence as individuals on the local scene. Brian and Colin talked about trying something different that would give them a chance to have some fun with a few practice sessions, eventually leading up to a show. It’s all about the journey of trying new material and new group dynamics.
